  • I'm using the HP Victus 15-fa1xxx 13th Gen. Windows Powershell ( the dark one) keeps popping up for a moment then closes each time I restart the laptop.(This has happened for a while and can't fix it) Today, I started the laptop, the lock screen froze and I couldn't access anything. The cursor still works on the frozen screen but nothing else shows up. Do I have a bug and how do I fix it kindly.

This explains the script that is running when you start or exit windows.  It also explains in detail how to remove the script.  You will need access to OpenAI to interact with the above URL.

If this is a new system and you have backups of all your important files then I recommend you do a cloud restore if one is available.  Expand spoiler for cloud restore

Spoiler

HP is removing cloud recovery for system over 5 years old.
The actual wording is a limited time after the warranty expires
You may want to get a copy of the cloud recovery before it is too late.
Cloud recovery provides all the custom HP drivers.
Go to the below site and enter your product ID including the 3 characters after the # character
If you have cloud recovery you can restore your system using a 64gb flash.
It may take an hour or more to create the recovery USB.

Alternately, download from the MS windows store

Let me know what you find out.

If you cannot log into windows, then start windows in safe mode and try to remove that startup script as explained by OpenAI.  Expand spoiler for details on safe mode recovery

Spoiler
You need to boot into safe mode to fix the problem.
Click here to see how to start your system in safe mode.

Bring up the Windows Device Manager and look for errors
Sometimes you can just delete the defective device and reboot to have Windows find the correct one.
If Windows put the wrong one in then you need to roll back the driver to the previous one.
You can also run SFC or DISM to fix file corruption while in safe mode.

SFC and DISM are both tools that scan and repair corrupted system files. However, SFC uses a cached version of the files, while DISM uses the internet to download and fix the files.

Try the SFC first and if that gives a message that it cannot fix the problem then try the DISM tool.
