@DMSgars wrote:This happened to me as well. It still takes approx 10 minutes to go from recognition screen to desktop.
Will HP PLEASE address this? I don't know what to do to fix this problem. I am not technical at all.
The work-around is to disable the service App Readiness. See this post:
There is a patch that came out yesterday, but it does not work for me, it might for you:

It worked! I was leery at first that it would cause the windows update to reinstall and would just have to start all over each time I signed out/in but so far so good. I am just so happy. Was so discouraged that my new (2 weeks) computer was a lemon -- well it wasn't the computer at all.
THANK YOU HP FORUM !!!

The problem is Microsoft's defective Windows 10 update: "2017-09 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64 - based Systems (KB4038788)" dated 9/12/2017. Microsoft's faulty KB4038788 Windows 10 update causes a black screen with a cursor for 10 to 15 minutes after the login screen before the desktop is displayed on many Windows 10 computers (including my BRAND NEW Hewlett Packard laptop which is only 2 months old). Computer settings, fast startup, and outdated or damaged drivers or hardware are not causing this problem for THOUSANDS of Microsoft customers WORLDWIDE; it is Microsoft's faulty KB4038788 Windows 10 update that has broken so, so many computers. Because I am a loyal Hewlett Packard & Microsoft Customer, and because Microsoft rams all Windows 10 updates down its customer's throats with no existing simple permanent solution for a faulty Windows 10 update or undesired driver update, I strongly recommend that all Windows 10 users impacted by Microsoft's faulty KB4038788 Windows 10 update go back to running Windows 7 in order to make their computers work properly again. Windows 7 is secure, safe, works great, and has more & better update options than Windows 10. Windows 7 is also still supported by Microsoft for a long time (through the year 2020).

Hi, I had the same issue: my screen went black for 5-10 minutes after the login.
As it seems, Windows solved the problem: since update KB4043292 my laptop boots quickly again (with App readiness on).
Cheers,
Robi.
