HP Spectre 15-eb0000 x360 Convertible Laptop PC RCTO Base Model

After installing a new replacement battery in my laptop (HP x360 15t-eb000) and charging it to 100%, the laptop seems to have problems. When powering up while only on battery (i.e. no external A/C module plugged in) the laptop only activates for a few seconds and then it powers down by itself. If I try to power up with the external module plugged in, the laptop will start up and work normally. At that point, I can even disconnect the external module and the laptop will continue on battery alone for a long while. Using the original battery, now bulging up significantly but still taking the charge, the laptop starts up and functions normally on battery alone. I tried two different battery manufacturers for the replacement battery, but both batteries acted the same.

Please advise.

Hi @Giovanni_L,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you've encountered some issues after replacing the battery in your HP x360 15t-eb000 laptop. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem.

  • Battery Calibration: Make sure the new replacement battery is properly calibrated. To do this, charge the battery to 100%, then let it discharge completely until the laptop shuts down. Charge it back to 100% without interruptions. This process helps the laptop recognize the battery's full capacity.
  • Update BIOS/UEFI: Ensure that your laptop's BIOS/UEFI is up to date. HP often releases updates that address compatibility issues and improve system stability. Visit the HP support website to check for the latest BIOS/UEFI version for your laptop model.
  • Check Power Settings: Verify your power settings in the operating system. Make sure the laptop is not set to shut down or hibernate too quickly on battery power. Adjust the settings to see if it makes a difference.
  • Hardware Inspection: Inspect the replacement battery for any physical damage or defects. Check if there are any loose connections or improper installation. Also, check for any loose or damaged power connectors on the laptop.
  • Original Battery Performance: Since the laptop functions normally on battery power with the original battery, it could indicate that the issue is specific to the replacement batteries.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello @Alden4 and thank you for your detail reply.

I had already gone through all the steps you outlined and they did not resolve my problem. I may try yet another brand of replacement batteries (it does appear that HP no longer sells these batteries as replacements, correct?), because I suspect the first two brands I tried were really a repackaging from the same manufacturer (the HP Battery Check diagnostic test shows the same manufacturer code 333-1C-32-A). I also noticed that with either replacement battery I can start the laptop in BIOS mode with only the battery, but as soon as I exit to the Windows lock screen, the laptop shuts down.

As another point to consider, the HP UEFI battery test, while showing the battery is OK, indicates the Charge State is not available. Could this have anything to do with some Windows start-up battery test failing and shutting down the laptop?

I'd appreciate your thoughts and suggestions.

Thanks
