HP Notebook - 15-bw003wm
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I wiped my HP laptop's hard drive to clear it up (I wanted to factory reset it basically) and put it back into the laptop. I've been attempting to install Windows 11 or even 10 on it from a USB drive, but it absolutely does not work. I've tried everything, changing BIOS settings and doing hard drive checks. It always either stalls and gets stuck on a loading screen, restarts over and over with no progress, or the screen completely glitches out.

I've tried to download and boot from the HP system tests diagnostic tool but that does not work either. I have never been able to access System Tests because it has never worked.

All solutions i've come across either depend on the computer to already be up and running OR relies on the system tests diagnostic, which I can't get to boot from.

Hi @Sephypls,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Notebook - 15-bw003wm is stuck in a frustrating loop where Windows won’t install, and even HP’s own diagnostics tools won’t boot. Let’s walk through a recovery plan that doesn’t rely on a working OS or built-in diagnostics.

Step-by-Step Recovery Plan

1. Use HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI (Bootable USB)

Since your system tests don’t work, try creating a bootable diagnostics USB:

  • Download the tool from HP here:
👉 HP PC Hardware Diagnostics | HP® Support
  • Use another working PC to create the USB.
  • Plug it into your HP laptop, power it on, and press Esc repeatedly → then F9 to select the USB drive.

This tool can help test your RAM, hard drive, and motherboard outside of Windows.

2. Check for Missing Storage Drivers

If Windows setup says “No drives found” or stalls, your system may need SATA/RAID drivers:

More info: HP PCs - No drives can be found during Windows 11 or Windows 10 installation (Intel 11th Generation ...

3. Reset BIOS to Defaults

Sometimes BIOS settings can block installation:

  • Power on and press Esc → then F10 to enter BIOS.
  • Press F9 to load defaults → then F10 to save and exit.
  • Make sure Legacy Support is enabled and Secure Boot is disabled if you're using a non-UEFI USB installer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
