HP Pavilion Laptop PC 15-eg2000 (4U8D9AV)

my hp pavilion laptop battery is draining even if it's plugged in. It is new laptop, actually 2 months old.

This could be either a failing battery or a failing charger -- or both.

But, you should NOT be having to diagnose and replace parts on a computer only a few months old.

Problems this early are often indicators of a device that is going to have more serious problems down the road -- so, if this was mine, I would contact where I bought it to see what they will do for me. If they are unwilling to replace the charger and/or the battery, then I would demand they provide me the details about returning it for a full refund of the purchase price -- and buy something else that will last longer than a few months without issues.

After I prepared my laptop for service and went back to factory settings, the problem with the battery seemed to be solved. For the last few days, I have been testing my laptop and installing the software that I had before.
It seems that the battery is working normally now.
Looking back, I think that the troubles started after I did a BIOS update that was offered/forced by HP.

By the way, making a factory reset is not a very easy job.

Basically, to start your machine again, you have to log in and then all your personal settings and information are downloaded again.

I think HP should make it more straightforward.

Anyway, everything is working well for now. Thank you for your response.

I will keep the community posted.

All the best.
