hi

I recently installed ubuntu (on the device that this post is about) because I wasn't able to install any version of windows (10,8.1,8, or 7) the laptop originally came with 8.1 but was upgraded to 10 and that's when it started to have problems like frequent slowdowns and I decided to see what erasing the drive and reinstalling windows but when I started to look on google (and I'm not sure if this is true or not ) but may websites said that you need to enable something in the bios but I can't access the bios menu because I don't know the password. I've tried unplugging the CMOS battery but that didn't work and since I'm using ubuntu the bios updaters are of no use to me at all since I don't have wine installed. i will glady give any info if needed.

thanks

First off, Wine will not help you at all with BIOS updates since it is basically a "hack" that only allows you to run some, actually very few, Windows programs.

Second, I'm sorry, but HP only warranties their PCs for usage with the OS that comes preinstalled.

IF you replace that with a Linux distro, or add a Linux distro, then you assume full responsibility for maintaining that -- including solving any problems with booting the other OS and/or installing the other OS.

Your best bet for support now is to contact the support forum of the distro you are using.
