HP Pavilion dv4000
Microsoft Windows XP

I am looking for a copy of the BIOS for my dv4000. The the PC is no longer supported by HP so I cannot download it. Where can I find a copy of the current BIOS F.17 that is used by my pc.  I assume there is a repository somewhere that would contain this antiquated data? Not by HP, but a third party perhaps? Additionally, I am looking for any updated versions for this PC.

Thanks

You're very welcome.

I doubt you will be able to find the information you are looking for as HP has completely removed all of the reference material for that model series.

When I googled the model, that was the latest BIOS revision I could find, so I doubt a newer one even exists.

Hi:

HP still has the file on their FTP server...F.17...

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp32501-33000/sp32790.exe

Thanks for the link.I appreciate that very much. I have downloaded the file.  The second part of my question in my post maybe a little harder to answer. Are there updates past F.17 that are available for my dv4000 and what issues are resolved with each update (i.e a change log for each new version).  I am keenly interested in any change to the BIOS that whould allow my dv4000 to boot from a USB device. I would like very much to use an updated bIOS version that has been tested an approved by HP for my PC.

Thanks for you help

Thanks for your help.  I tried to find anything about my model and its associated BIOS online and completely failed. I found nothing. Which sites did you find information that was useful  or helpful?

I forgot. I had another question for you. Regarding, the file that you posted for me download; how do I determinw which version of the BIOS is included in the file? Is there some indication once I execute the file?

thanks

You're very welcome.

The file should tell you what version it is after you run it.

If you use a free file utility like 7-zip you can extract the exe file into its folder.

I happened to do that to confirm it was F.17 and there are some files listed in the driver folder that indicate that it is.

There is a file named 3081F17_WIN and when you apply 7-Zip to that one also, it breaks it down further to show the same file name with a WPH extension (probably a windows flash file).

As to what helped me find that file for you...As I wrote yesterday, I googled dv4000 drivers and this was the most helpful site.  Once it showed me the file number, I went to the HP FTP website to download the actual driver from HP.

Probably it is safe to download from their site, but I know I am 100% safe to just look up the sp##### they show and get it directly from HP.

Here is the link to the HP driver FTP site if you want to do that too.

thanks again for being so helpful. I wll do what you suggested and unzip the file myself and see whats in the file, I am very interested in whats included in the sp file.  Thanks for the seach pointer. That is not what my search criteria was. It did not even occur to ne to add the word driver.

thanks again
