bios update issue

updated BIOS from 82FE VF20 to 82FE V29A and now crashing and blank screen after 10 mins - unable to roll back BIOS can anyone help with this -

@IanCrawford Let's perform a power reset as per HP standards:

Ensure your device is OFF.

Unplug all the external devices (If any).

Disconnect the power from the computer

Press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds.

Connect the power supply

Press the power button to turn on your device and check if the issue persists.

If the issue persists, after the above steps, try the below:

To recover an earlier version of the BIOS on your computer:

1. Turn off the computer.

2. With the computer off, press and hold the Windows key and the B key at the same time.

3. Still pressing those keys, press and hold the Power button on the computer for 2 to 3 seconds, and then release the Power button but continue to hold the Windows and B keys until the BIOS update screen displays or you hear a beeping sound (usually 8 beeps).

   NOTE: 

   If the key presses do not work, press and release the Power button, and then immediately, press the Windows and B keys at the same time, repeatedly, until the computer beeps or opens the BIOS update screen.

   The power LED light remains on, and the screen remains blank for about 40 seconds before anything displays on the monitor. You might also hear beeping sounds. Eventually, an HP BIOS Update screen displays and the BIOS update begins automatically.

   

   • If the HP BIOS Update screen displays proceed to the next step.

   • If the HP BIOS Update screen does not display, do one of the following depending on the condition:

   • Computer starts into Windows: The computer starts into Windows if the power button and keys are released too soon. Repeat the previous steps, holding the power button down for 2 or 3 seconds.

   • Power LED light turns off: The computer turns off if the power button is pressed and held down too long. Repeat the previous steps, holding the power button down for between 2 and 3 seconds.

   • After repeated attempts, the HP BIOS Update screen does not open: Your computer does not support this function or it has a hardware problem that is preventing the tool from opening.

Thanks for getting back to me with this information.

The 30 second reset does not work. CMOS reset does not work.

The Windows and B key at post boot does goto the BIOS update screen but it simply flashes the BIOS with the latest (faulty) version all over again i.e. F29A and does not give an option to restore the old F20 version that was working fine.

I have also tried the HP diagnostics via the UEFI F2 combination but again although it says its "rolling back" the bios it still installs the F29 version (latest).

The only way I can see round this is to get a copy of the 82FE F20 BIOS image and install it where ever its hidden on the hard drive partition in place of the current F29 image and then run the Window + B key combination or the UEFI F2 diagnostic at boot up. I notice others have the same issue now. Maybe HP could provide a BIOS update for the PAV 570 - p026na Desktop  that will solve the issue. One of the symptons that occurs is if you hover the mouse pointer over the Windows START menu power icon the screen goes black and everything freezes - I think this may be beyond help - shame because its been a great desktop PC till now. - hope you like a challenge?

@IanCrawford If the Bios recovery suggested thus far didn't help resolve the issue, I'm afraid that's because there's a hardware malfunction, and I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options, follow the below steps to get started:

1) Click on this link - http://www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on Sign-in or select the product using the below step:

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!
