One of my laptops won't boot up. When I turn it on, I get the following message:
"Windows Boot Manager
Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer.
This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the device is in use, or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing. Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer.
If you continue to receive this error message, contact the hardware manufacturer.
File: \Boot\BCD
Status: OxcOOOOe9
Info: An unexpeted I/O error has occurred"
Any advice on what to do? Your help is greatly appreciated.
Harlan

Hi,
I think the 2nd character of your failure id is actually Zero - ie U0D43A-5QN89J-MFGH5F-60Q203.
If that's correct, the error code is a failure of the hard drive short disk self test ( DST ) and would indicate that the drive is failing and will need to be replaced - that's also consistent with your description of the issue.
If you'd like a guide on replacing the Hard Drive yourself, please let me know.

Hi,
Shutdown the notebook.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu. Select the Diagnostic Menu option ( f2 ) and see if you're able to run the tests on the Hard Drive.
Post back with the results, including any error codes that may be generated.
Can you also post back with the full Model No. and Product No. of your notebook - see Here for a guide on locating this information.
Regards,
DP-K
