Spectre 13 X360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Backed up hard drive using Macrium Reflect.  Attempted t install Windows 1809 feature pack.  At about 86% compuret tried to restart but went into recovery screen.  Tried to remove feature but failed.  Booted from Macrium USB and restored hard drive.  On restart fan runs briefly, screen flashes and then power light blinks.  It will keep doing this over and over.  Battery is fully charged.  Tried hard reset holding power button 15 seconds.  no joy.

Welcome to HP Forums,

Let's get straight to it!

We recommend you perform a hardware test on the device, an extended self-test to ensure there are no hardware issues on the device, meanwhile, I must let you know that HP does not support or recommend usage of cloning software such as the one you've used as the OS is encrypted and the same may or may not work on the cloned image, if the hardware tests pass, you may need to reinstall windows on the hard drive using the HP Recovery media: Click here for information.

And follow the below steps to initiate the test:

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  3. On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.

  4. Click Extensive Test.

  5. Click Run once, or Loop until error.

While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component display on the screen.

  6. If a component fails a test, write down the failure ID (24-digit code) for when you respond to me.

Keep me posted, as I (Or a trusted colleague) shall follow-up on this case to ensure the concern has been addressed,

And your device is up and running again, only in case you don't get back to us, first!

That said, If the information I've provided was helpful, give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

That'll help us, and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

All Hardware tests passed.

When I enter system recovery I get an error "a required device isn't connected r can't be accessed"  error code 0xc0000225

@sleepydog55

It's good that the tests have passed, that confirms this isn't a hardware malfunction and the best way forward is to reset windows to resolve the error code 0xc0000225, here's what you'll need to do:

Windows 10 has a reset feature that repairs your computer by reinstalling the operating system. This feature is recommended for recovery because it reinstalls Windows 10 while either preserving your personal data and customizations or removing all your personal data.

You have a choice of two methods to reset your computer.

  • If Windows 10 loads correctly, see the section titled Perform a Windows 10 system reset in Windows in this document.

  • If Windows 10 does not start correctly, see the section titled Perform a Windows 10 system reset through Windows Recovery Environment in this document.

(By the end of this article all the issues should be resolved)

None of this works.  Windows does not start so that is out.  I can get yo  screen by hitting pf11 but it displays the above error and says I will need to use recovery tools.  Sounds like I need recovery media from HP.  How do I get that and how do I get the machine to bot from it when I get it

HP Recommended

@sleepydog55 the best way to obtain the recovery media is mentioned in this link: Click here

And if that doesn't help, I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options:

follow the below steps to get started:

1) Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on "Continue as guest".

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!
