Yeah a hard reset was the first thing I tried. I've tried alerrnative display and hard drives even swamped out the ram banks. I think a power fluctuation or surge got me while the lid was closed and it hibernated a little to long and a little too deep. I ordered another hp notebook
Off eBay this morning so I can still work while I continue to trouble shoot this one. Thanks man for your time and attention. You can check us out anytime at one of our sites http://www.florencewarlocks.com. My name is CaptBob Again thanks!

Hi @captbwmc,

Thank you for showing your interest in the HP Forums, I’d like to help 🙂

As I understand the computer isn't waking up from sleep mode, Don't worry, though, as I have a few steps that should help resolve the issue,

Please follow the below steps:

Step 1: Enabling the Keyboard in Windows

Skip this step if the computer does not enter sleep mode or if the computer wakes unexpectedly.

Follow these steps to enable your keyboard to wake your computer from sleep mode:

1. In Windows, search for and open the Device Manager.

2. Click the arrow next to Keyboards and double-click the name of your keyboard.

3. If the Power Management tab is available, proceed to the next step.

If the Power Management tab is not available, click the Change Settings button if it appears below the Device status box. The same Keyboard Properties window opens with the Power Management tab available.

If you are prompted for an Administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

1. Click the Power Management tab and make sure that the box next to Allow this device to wake the computer is checked.

2. Click OK, and then test to make sure that the keyboard can now wake the computer. If the computer still cannot wake from sleep mode, continue using these steps.

3. For instructions on how to update the BIOS of your computer, see one of the following HP support documents: Updating the BIOS (Notebooks)

Thanks for the suggestions but my screen or hard drive won't come up at all. I'm talking the black screen of death. I' be tried every suggested cure on the web and still no cure. I even replaced the 3v battery next to her that I'm guessing is my come battery then Let it charge for an hour with the external battery removed. Then shut it down and rebooted to no avail.

@captbwmc

It looks like you were interacting with @Jeet_singh, but he's out for the day

And I'll be glad to help you out.

The Riddle_Decipher is at your service,

Normally, the steps suggested by the previous tech should get your computer out of sleep mode,

however, since there's no display to perform the steps as you've mentioned, did you perform a hard reset?
If not, let's start with a hard reset to ensure the computer turns back on:

Before power resetting your computer, do the following:

  1. Disconnect or remove all peripheral devices. Start up the laptop and test the computer by itself, and then reconnect one peripheral device at a time.

  2. Turn over the computer and look for a battery compartment door.

Once the above steps have been followed the computer should turn on and when it does, follow the steps suggested by the previous tech to resolve the issue,
I would also recommend disabling hibernation and hybrid sleep from the advanced power options under control panel.

If the above steps don't work, I recommend checking with an alternate power adapter or a different wall outlet to ensure the computer is charging, if the PC is charging, connect an alternate monitor to your computer and check if there's a display on the same and follow the steps mentioned on this link: Click here

Let me know how that pans out,

Feel free to post your query for any other assistance as well,

It's been a pleasure interacting with you and I hope you have a good day ahead.

@captbwmc

Thank you for the update,

I appreciate your time and efforts,

If the issue occurred due to a power fluctuation as you've mentioned,

It's best you contact HP to set up a repair service to fix the computer.

Also, I love the choppers in your link but that link should have come with a disclaimer as it seemed NSFW 😛

Please use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:

Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/

Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect

Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"

Step 4. Scroll down and click: HP contact options - click on Get phone number to obtain a case along with the phone number.

They will be happy to assist you immediately.
