every time the window starts, it directly goes into the F2 menu, and the button physically shows no problem and when I complete the hardware diagnostic utility, I do not find  my keyboard model in the list. Please help

Hi @msibraim,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  1. What is the exact model of your laptop?
  2. Did this problem start happening suddenly, or after a recent update, driver install, or hardware change?
  3. Can you boot into Windows at all, or does it always go straight to F2?
  4. Is your laptop detecting an external keyboard if you plug one in?

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

  • Reset BIOS settings: Inside the F2 menu, look for an option like “Load Setup Defaults” or “Restore Defaults”, save, and exit. Sometimes a misconfigured BIOS can cause the system to think a key is being held down.
  • Check boot order: Make sure your internal drive with Windows is set as the first boot device. If the system doesn’t detect a bootable drive, it may go straight to BIOS.
  • External keyboard test: Plug in a USB keyboard and see if you can bypass the F2 menu to boot normally.
  • Check for stuck keys: Even if the F2 key looks fine, try gently cleaning around it or tapping all the function keys, just in case the laptop senses a stuck key electronically.
  • Update BIOS: If possible, check HP’s website for a BIOS update for your laptop model. An outdated BIOS can sometimes misdetect the keyboard.
  • Reseat internal keyboard (advanced): If comfortable, you could carefully reseat the internal keyboard ribbon cable sometimes it can lose proper contact.

I hope this helps.
