Oops, I'm back. 🙂  I have the new hard drive (unopened).  I was able to remove the old hard drive, put it in an enclosure and retrieve the Windows 10 product key and license.  Unfortunately, when I was disconnecting the hard drive cable from the computer, that connector end self destructed. (It was very hard to pull out, even though I found a video of exactly how to do it.)  So now I need to order a new cable.  Could you tell me what exactly I shoud order and where?

As usual, I am in awe of your generosity in helping.  Also, as I am 79 years old, I am sure I am your elder, so when I call you a hero, you have to respect that! 🙂

HP only sells the cable with the bracket as a kit:

Hard Drive Hardware Kit, includes: 809537-001 (2a) Hard drive bracket (2b) Connector cable

Sorry it is $36 plus shipping but it is going to be hard to find just the cable for sale anywhere:

You can order the part shipped to you from the above link.

As always, you have the answer--and it is still cheaper than buying a new notebook. (Plus I like the one I have.) Thanks once again for your help.
