HP EliteBook 8740w Mobile Workstation
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently acquired this old laptop - which had no OS, but did a digital licence for Windows 10 Pro, which I have installed. It's working well - apart from one mysterious disappointment.

The fn key seems to be disabled and I can't find a way of enabling it again. The key LED light is permanently off and it does not respond to any combination of other keys. I cannot enable it in BIOS because there is no Action Keys Mode setting.

I know I'm not the first person to be mildly inconvenienced in this way - somebody somewhere must know of a solution. This forum seems to be my best hope.

Gratitude Guaranteed ! 🙂

Hi:

Since your notebook is not supported by HP for W8, W8.1 or W10, the only suggestion I can offer would be to try the W7 Quick launch buttons software from your notebook's support page.
