Hi @SHEARI ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The symptoms you are describing—no display and the Caps Lock LED blinking 2 times—are an HP-specific diagnostic code that almost always points to an issue with the BIOS.1 The continuous network LED light is generally normal when the laptop is on, but the blink code is the key.

According to HP's documentation for these older notebooks, 2 blinks (Caps Lock/Num Lock) means :

"BIOS Corruption Failure"

This means the firmware (BIOS) on the motherboard is corrupted and cannot start the computer.

The solution is to try and force the laptop to recover the BIOS from a hidden partition on the hard drive or a recovery USB.

Here is the step-by-step procedure to attempt a BIOS recovery:

1. Perform a Hard Reset (Power Cycle)

This clears any residual electrical charge that may be causing the issue.

  1. Disconnect the AC adapter (charger).
  2. Remove the battery from the laptop.
  3. Press and hold the Power Button for 15-20 seconds to drain any residual power.
  4. Re-insert the battery (if you want to test with battery only) or connect the AC adapter (charger) only. Do not re-insert the battery and adapter at the same time for this step.
  5. Try to turn the laptop on.

If the hard reset fails, proceed to the BIOS recovery steps.

2. Attempt a BIOS Recovery (Key Press Combination)

You can try to force the laptop to load a backup copy of the BIOS.

  1. Shut down the laptop completely (if it's still running).
  2. Connect the AC adapter. Do not use the battery for this step.
  3. Press and hold the Windows key Win and the B at the same time.
  4. While holding those two keys, press and hold the Power Button for about 2-3 seconds, and then release the Power Button, but continue to hold the Win + B  keys.
  5. Wait. You may hear beeping sounds (usually 8 beeps) and the system might briefly turn off and on.
  6. The HP BIOS Update screen should appear, and the recovery process will start automatically.

3. If Key Press Fails: Use a Recovery USB

If the key-press combination does not work, you will need to create a BIOS recovery flash drive using a working computer.

  1. Find a Working Computer and a blank USB flash drive (at least 2GB).
  2. Go to the HP Software and Driver Downloads website and search for the HP 630 Notebook PC.
  3. Download the latest BIOS update file for your specific model.
  4. Run the downloaded BIOS file on the working computer. When prompted, select an option like "Create Recovery Media" or "Copy to a USB Flash Drive". This tool will properly format the USB drive and copy the necessary BIOS files to it.
  5. Insert the recovery USB drive into the non-working HP 630.
  6. Repeat the BIOS recovery key combination from step 2 (holding Win + B ) while pressing the Power Button). This time, the system should find the BIOS file on the USB drive and begin the recovery.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, the problem is a persistent hardware failure that will require servicing. The two blinks can occasionally be caused by a faulty CPU, but the official HP code for 2 blinks points directly to the BIOS.
