Hi
I had symantec desktop encryption on my laptop and initially tried to do a factory reset but this couldn't be done because one of the drives was write protected. I tried:
- chkdsk / f or /r or /f/r/x - none of these would not work due to write protection
- diskpart.exe - delete partitions - error write protected
- delete partition force - which I resolved by - list volume > select volume 0 > attributes disk clear readonly
When I rebooted, I got a 'boot device not found error' - so it sounds like I have finally managed to remove symantec desktop encryption and the write protection on the disks however, I am not sure how to proceeed. I assume I have to reload Windows 10 - do I need to load anything else? Also, do I need to do this in secure boot up?
I did run the hard disk check and it came back as OK.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I really am not sure what to do next.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Welcome to HP Community
May I know how are you reinstalling the OS? Are you using the HP Recovery Media?
If you are using the HP Recovery Media, you do not have to reload any extra drivers. This will take the Notebook back to day one settings and you just need to complete all the updates
It might be necessary to disable secure boot in the BIOS in order to start the computer using recovery media (USB Drives or CD/DVD).

Keep me posted how it goes 😊

Hi Krazy!
Thank you for your response. I was trying HP Recovery Media but it kept failing.
Following your response I disabled the secure boot in the BIOS and then used a Windows usb to reload. All working now!!!
Thank you very much for your help.
