Hi @jenni233,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP laptop is stuck on the HP key support screen and the screen remains black, there could be a few potential issues causing this problem. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot.

  • Hard Reset: Sometimes, a hard reset can resolve issues with laptops being stuck. To do this, turn off the laptop, disconnect any peripherals, and remove the battery if possible. Then press and hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds. Reinsert the battery (if applicable) and try turning the laptop back on.
  • Check for Physical Issues: Ensure that there are no physical obstructions blocking the laptop's functionality. Sometimes, keys being stuck or something pressing against the keyboard can cause booting issues.
  • External Monitor: Connect your laptop to an external monitor to see if the issue lies with the laptop screen itself. If you can see the display on the external monitor, then the issue might be with the laptop's display or graphics drivers.
  • BIOS/UEFI Settings: Access the BIOS or UEFI settings by pressing the appropriate key (usually Del, F2, F10, or F12) during startup. Once in the BIOS/UEFI settings, check if the hard drive is recognized and set as the primary boot device. Also, ensure that Secure Boot is disabled if you're trying to boot from external media.
  • Boot in Safe Mode: Try booting your laptop in Safe Mode by repeatedly pressing the F8 key during startup. Safe Mode loads only essential drivers and system files, which can help identify if a third-party application or driver is causing the issue.
  • Recovery Options: Depending on your laptop model, you may have recovery options available. This could involve using a recovery partition, recovery USB drive, or recovery discs to restore your system to a previous working state.
  • Hardware Issues: If none of the above solutions work, there might be a hardware problem with your laptop.

Remember to back up any important data before attempting any troubleshooting steps that might affect your system.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
