Pavilion 15-ab121dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My Pavilion 15 inch has been dead for a while. I thought it was the power adapter and I just managed to get a new one today. It still does not boot nor show any lights of any kind. Its going on three and a half years old now. Is there anything else to try, or is just dead and put in the trash?

@pthere If an alternate adapter isn't helping, you may check with another wall outlet (to be safe) and if nothing works, the device can be revived by changing the DC power connector on the system board, here's how you do it, also I understand the device is not within the warranty, so there would be a charge to get this done, however, not a lot, as far as I know:

You may order the replacement parts on the HP Parts Store, If you've already looked for it and couldn't find it on the HP Parts Store, you may want to get it locally at the online store such as Amazon or eBay, etc...as the part numbers are universal.

I ordered the part today. I will see if it fixes the problem. If not, I guess its recycle bin.

@pthere Alright, good luck with the part, and let us know how that goes before opting for the recycle bin, maybe we can work something out.

Stay well.

Ok. I swapped out the dc connector on the system board and there is still no power. At this point, it looks like the machine is completely dead without a full replacement.

@pthere If that hasn't helped, you could be right about the device being dead, the best way to revive it though is to get in touch with the support team, I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options, follow the below steps to get started:

1) Click on this link - http://www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on Sign-in or select the product using the below step:

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!

Also, if you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty, if yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from,

here's how private messages work: Click here for details.

If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.
