hp stream 11.6
Microsoft Windows 8 (32-bit)

I have had my computer for about a year. On Friday morning  I defragged my computer and it seemed to be running fine before I shut it down for the day. Saturday night I turned it on to do some work and all I'm getting is a white screen. There is no start up and it's not bringing me to my log in screen to unlock it.

Hi @april88 ,

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read about your HP Stream 11Notebook and getting a blank screen on startup. Try performing a hard reset.

When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices.

Here is a link to computer won't start for Windows 8. Here is a Youtube video that might help.  It is desktops but it works the same for Notebooks.

You can do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook.

I hope something here helps.

Thanks.

Hey @mstoi0429,

Did you install any new software or Hardware?

Did you try the steps above in my post?

Here is a link to computer won't start for Windows.

Plug the power adapter directly into a different wall outlet. Do not plug it into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source as this could cause and issue.

Do you hear the Fans? If yes, try to connect to a monitor to see what happens.

Please let me know how this goes.

My computer updated Windows 10 on Monday afternoon. Everything was fine. Tuesday afternoon I was using Public Wi-Fi again all fine; Tuesday night I downloaded pics from my Fujifilm s8400w, again fine. About an hour later while using public WI-Fi I was browsing pictures that I wanted to post to Fb, and suddenly the screen went blank/white. Tried a hard restart 2 or 3 times but no soap. Finally shut it down and went to bed. This morning I Googled HP Stream 11 for white screen, then followed suggestions in this discussion. Restarted this morning again by a hard reset; told me Windows didn't update correctly and asked me to either restart or try troubleshoot options. I chose restart and it finally opened up although it asked me for my log on password twice. Works fine now. THANX for the thread & expertise shared. I really like this HP Stream 11. Model# 11-r014wm. BTW, I use a Samsung 64Gb SDXC card for extra memory, it seems to work fine. I suspect 128Gb would work also, but at that price why not buy a 1 ot 2 Tb External Hard Drive?

best regards

I have an hp stream 11.6 and have a password for it. But now when it starts the power light comes on it flashes and the logo comes on but then it just turns black and turns off. Do any of you have a solution for that?

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. As I understand there is a white screen on the screen,

Don't worry though as I have a few steps to determine the issue and find a solution as well,

Please try an alternate monitor to understand if this is either a hardware or a software failure, if the white screen do not appear on the alternate monitor, replace the display assembly on your computer, if there is white screen on the alternate monitor/TV as well, re-install the graphics card drivers & update it from the official HP Website: Click here

If you don’t have an alternate monitor, I recommend checking if the white screen appear on the BIOS screen (restart the computer and tap on F10 to access BIOS)

This would confirm if it's either a hardware failure or an issue with the graphics card drivers so we may reinstall and update the drivers to fix the issue as mentioned above.

If the issue persists on BIOS as well, please try with a TV to identify if it's the LCD or the motherboard/video card failure,

If the issue occurred after an accident (such as dropping it on the floor, liquid spilled on it, etc.) there could be a hardware failure and in such cases, you may need to get the computer repaired via HP (there could be a charge involved if the PC isn't covered by the accidental damage protection plan)

Reply with the result of the above-mentioned steps, for further assistance.

Have had my HP Stream 11. Model# 11-r014wm since July 3rd, 2016 and had a 2nd Whitescreen event last night on Public WiFi. Performed a Hard Restart this morning by;
(Notebook was off)
1) Removing 64Gb SDXC card.
2) Holding down the power button & counting to 15.
3) Releasing power button and leave alone for 15 seconds.

4) Push power button on & release.

5) Wait for boot up

6) Got a message about Windows not shutting down correctly (or shutting down); then the dreaded circle in motion.

7) Got the log on screen and password prompt.

😎 Started up normally and seems to work.

9) Reinstall SDXC card.

Give this a shot. Still love this little notebook despite lack of on board memory & quirky mouse/scroll pad/pointer.
