i installed a new solid state drive?

i have a HP folio 13 1020us. the SS drive started to give me a warning that it was crashing. i bought the exact same drive and installed it.i tried to load XP and it gave me the blue screen warning.

i would like to get it back to windows 7 pro. I don't have that software and I'm afraid to invest in it because it might not load. Why do I get the blue warning screen?Any suggestions.

You have to install the SATA AHCI storage controller drivers for Windows to find the drive in Windows XP.

There are two ways to do it.

One requires a USB floppy disk drive and a floppy disk.

The other method requires slipstreaming the SATA AHCI drivers into a copy of your XP installation media.

With the floppy disk method, at the beginning of the WXP installation procedure, you press the F6 key to let Windows know you are going to load a driver.

When Windows is done loading the installation files, it will stop and ask you to press the 's' key to load the drivers.

You browse to the floppy disk scroll up or down and select the Intel(R) Mobile Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller from the list of files on the floppy disk and Windows XP should install.

I have zipped up and attached the Intel SATA AHCI storage controllers below.

There are two files inside the folder one for 32 bit and one for 64 bit.

You copy only the files in the applicable folder to the floppy disk.

The other method would be to slipstream either the 32 bit or 64 bit driver folder in the attached file as applicable, to a copy of your Windows installation media.

I have attached the instructions for how to do that, below.

After the slipstream has been successfully completed, you use the copy of the XP disk with the slipstreamed drivers to install windows and it should work normally.

I can download and open both attachments just fine.

Sorry, but I can't help you with problems on your end.

I can download the sp52144 file, unzip and open it.

I can download and open the pdf file with no problem as well.

If you are having issues with the sp52144 file you will have to download the exe file below.

Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver

To extract the exe file into a driver folder so you can access the storage controller drivers, download and install the free 7-Zip file utility from the link below.

7-Zip

After you install 7-Zip, right click on the storage controller file you downloaded.

Select 7-Zip from the list of items on the menu. 

If you are doing this on a W11 PC then select 'More options' because 7-zip won't show up on the abbreviated list you get.

Have 7-Zip Extract to: and let it extract the exe file into its folder name.

The driver folders are in the main driver folder that appears after 7-zip creates the driver folder.

sp52144>Drivers>x32 or x64 depending on what bit version of XP you installed.

i'm on a MAC and that may be the problem?

I got it downloaded but it says i can't open it on a mac. 

maybe i can send it to a thumb drive and then open it.

You're going to need a windows PC or software that can extract an exe file into a driver folder on a Mac PC.

I don't know a thing about Mac PCs and what software is available to use on them.

You'll still have the same issue plugging a USB flash drive into your PC with the file.

You won't be able to read it, and you won't be able to use the nLite software on a Mac PC to slipstream the drivers (unless you plan to use the floppy disk drive method to install XP).

Have you thought about after you install XP?

Your PC will be missing a lot of drivers for things to work, and some of the devices may not work on XP at all.
