Does anyone have a solution to the 100% disk usage for HP laptops? I've tried all the "tips" from youtube, etc, but nothing has done the trick. It's EXTREMELY annoying to have 100% disk usage, ALL the time.

Hi @batrot,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for sharing your issue on the Pc. Persistent 100% disk usage on HP laptops running Windows 11 can be incredibly frustrating. Since you've already tried common YouTube tips, here’s a deeper, more targeted approach that often resolves this issue:

1. Disable SysMain (Superfetch)

This service often causes high disk usage.

  • Press Win + R, type services.msc, press Enter.
  • Find SysMain, right-click → Stop.
  • Then right-click again → Properties → set Startup type to Disabled.

2. Turn Off Windows Search Indexing

  • In services.msc, find Windows Search, right-click → Stop.
  • Set Startup type to Disabled.

3. Check for StorAHCI Driver Bug

This is a known issue with SSDs and AHCI drivers.

  • Open Device Manager → expand IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
  • Right-click Standard SATA AHCI Controller → Properties → Driver tab → click Driver Details.
  • If you see storahci.sys, go to Details tab → select Device instance path.
  • Open Registry Editor (regedit) → navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI\<your device path>\Device Parameters\Interrupt Management\MessageSignaledInterruptProperties
  • Set MSISupported to 0.

4. Disable Background Apps

  • Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
  • Disable unnecessary apps from running in the background.

5. Check for Malware or HP Telemetry

  • Run a full scan with Windows Defender or Malwarebytes.
  • HP telemetry services like HP Touchpoint Analytics can cause spikes:
    • Go to services.msc → disable HP Touchpoint Analytics Service.

6. Update Storage Drivers

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
