I have a 6 year old G-62-364 DX which has been great.  It has a motherboard problem which prevents bootup.  It boots when I deliberately overheat it.  Many other people have this symptom, and it occurs to me to ask if HP or this forum if any kind of investigation has been done to further narrow down where on the board likely connection problems are.  And if I can do anything.  I have held the motherboard in my hand and reassembled it with no problem - and no change in symptom.

Issue came about following local Best Buy servicing for me following my comcern tha fan was running all time after it had been on awhile. I thought it was headed for overheat damage if not cleaned. B B did a clean which I was told (later) was just a blow out with canned air.
Following BB efforts it no longer booted. After this I took it apart myself up to removing MB and cooling assy. I replaced the bios battery. Since it did not look dirty I just put itback together and it still would not boot. So then as a last ditch I put a towell over the vent for 45 minutes so it could get a bit hot. Voila it booted. Since then (2 days) It has been on and off normally several times, just like new.
But clearly there appears to be a connection problem somewhere. Will probably repeat again sometime.

If the notebook overheats for it to boot up then it could be a hardware issue with the computer.

 

For better clarity and to assist you better, I would require more information regarding this.

 

  • Does the computer overheat a lot?
  • Does it shut down randomly?

Please try to update the bios, chipset, video, network and sound drivers for the unit from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-G62-Notebook-PC-series/4247529/model/4351601/document/c025564...

 

Then if it still does not help please run complete system diagnostics on the unit from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-G62-Notebook-PC-series/4247529/model/4351601/document/c014433...  and follow the option “Testing using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI”.

 

It takes about 90 minutes to run.If any component fails then you will need to contact a local Best Buy or staples technician to get the unit serviced as this is an older computer and not manufactured by HP anymore. So service options are not available with HP anymore for this unit.

 

Even if the diagnostics pass and the unit takes a long time to boot and you need to overheat it, it still is a hardware issue and it needs to be serviced. The bios and other driver updates might help.

 

Please check the fan and heatsink assembly thoroughly and replacing them could help also. Please consult a local technician prior to that.
