Hi @Krishan007
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
That’s definitely alarming—especially when your laptop powers on but the screen stays black. Let’s work through this together and try to bring it back to life. 🛠️
🔍 What This Could Mean
A black screen after power-on usually points to one of these:
- A graphics driver issue or corrupted system file
- A BIOS or firmware glitch
- A hardware fault like loose RAM or a failing display
- A recent update that didn’t install properly
🧰 Step-by-Step Fixes
1. Perform a Hard Reset
This clears residual power and resets hardware signals:
- Turn off the laptop completely.
- Unplug the charger and remove any USB devices.
- Press and hold the power button for 15–30 seconds.
- Plug the charger back in and try powering on.
2. Try BIOS Recovery
If the screen stays black:
- Press and hold Windows + B, then press and hold the power button for 2–3 seconds.
- Release all keys and wait up to 40 seconds.
- If successful, the BIOS recovery screen should appear.
You can follow along with this HP Support video guide for a visual walkthrough.
3. Connect to an External Monitor
To rule out a display issue:
- Plug in an external monitor via HDMI.
- Power on the laptop and press F4 or Fn + F4 to toggle display modes.
- If the external monitor works, the issue may be with your laptop’s screen or backlight.
4. Reseat the RAM (if accessible)
Loose or faulty memory can block startup:
- Power off and unplug the laptop.
- Open the back panel and carefully remove and reinsert the RAM sticks.
- Try powering on again.
5. Boot into Safe Mode
If you briefly see the HP logo before the screen goes black:
- Force shutdown the laptop as soon as the logo appears.
- Repeat this 2–3 times to trigger Windows Recovery Mode.
- Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart.
- Press F4 to boot into Safe Mode.
From there, you can:
- Roll back display drivers
- Run sfc /scannow in Command Prompt to fix system files
