HP Pavilion Notebook - 17-g121wm (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

this laptop was constantly disconnecting from my wifi. i had no idea why. so last night i went to perform a restart and when i did it froze when it started back up. it will show the hp logo and then just freeze there. along with i held the power button to force it to shut down after freezing and then it attempts to go into some kind of repair option and then shuts back down and starts back up and freezes. i have tried to create a bootable installation of win 10 and it wont even accept that. the only thing i can think is that it is something to do with the bios. but hp.com says that there are no software or drivers for my product. so when it comes to this laptop, what can i do?

Hi @yoshiyike,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're experiencing repeated freezing on your HP Pavilion Notebook - 17-g121wm (ENERGY STAR), starting with Wi-Fi disconnections and now resulting in startup failures. You're seeing the HP logo, followed by freezing or automatic attempts at repair, and you're unable to boot using Windows 10 installation media. Sorry to hear about the trouble, and we appreciate the detailed information you've provided and are here to help.

Please follow the steps below to isolate and address the issue:

1: Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Unplug the power adapter.
  3. If the battery is removable, take it out.
  4. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  5. Reconnect the battery and power adapter.
  6. Power on the device and check if the issue persists.

2: BIOS Recovery

If the system fails to get past the HP logo, the BIOS might be corrupted. Here's how to attempt a BIOS recovery:

  1. Turn the laptop off completely.
  2. Press and hold the Windows + B keys, then press and hold the power button (all three held together).
  3. After about 5 seconds, release the power button but continue holding Windows + B.
  4. If successful, the BIOS recovery will begin. Follow on-screen instructions.

3: Access HP Hardware Diagnostics (F2)

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Press the power button, then immediately and repeatedly press the F2 key until the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics menu appears.
  3. If it loads successfully, perform the following:
    • System Tests > Quick Test
    • If that passes, try Component Tests > Memory Test and Hard Drive Test
  4. If any test fails, note the failure ID and report it to HP Support.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
