Hi @Mychayel,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When a laptop shuts down shortly after powering on following a CPU swap, it often indicates an issue with compatibility or installation. Here are several troubleshooting steps to help identify and resolve the problem.

Check CPU Compatibility

Ensure that the new CPU is compatible with your HP Pavilion G6's motherboard. Check the HP website or the laptop's manual for a list of supported processors. Incompatible CPUs can cause the system to fail during the initial power-on self-test (POST).

Inspect CPU Installation

Ensure the CPU is properly seated in the socket:

  • Power off the laptop and unplug it.
  • Open the laptop and remove the CPU cooler.
  • Carefully remove and reseat the CPU, making sure it’s correctly aligned and securely placed in the socket.
  • Reapply thermal paste if necessary and reattach the CPU cooler.

Check for BIOS Updates

Some CPUs require a BIOS update to be supported. Visit the HP support website, download the latest BIOS update for your model, and follow the instructions to update your BIOS.

Test with Original CPU

Reinstall the original CPU to verify that the laptop powers on and functions correctly. If it does, the issue is likely related to the new CPU.

Check Power Supply and Battery

Ensure the power supply and battery are functioning correctly:

  • Try powering the laptop with the battery removed and only the AC adapter connected.
  • Verify that the AC adapter is working by testing it with another device or using a different adapter with the same specifications.

Inspect RAM and Other Components

Sometimes, reseating or testing the RAM can resolve startup issues:

  • Remove and reseat the RAM modules.
  • If you have multiple RAM sticks, try starting the laptop with one stick at a time to identify any faulty modules.

Clear CMOS Again

To ensure the CMOS is cleared:

  • Disconnect the power and remove the battery.
  • Locate the CMOS battery on the motherboard and remove it for a few minutes.
  • Press the power button for 10-15 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  • Reinstall the CMOS battery, reconnect the main battery, and plug in the power adapter.

Examine for Physical Damage

Look for any physical damage on the motherboard, CPU socket, or other components:

  • Check for bent pins on the CPU or socket.
  • Look for any signs of burnt components or broken connections.

Minimal Boot Configuration

Test the laptop with a minimal configuration:

  • Connect only essential components (CPU, one RAM stick, and power supply).
  • Disconnect other peripherals, hard drives, and external devices.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I cleared cmos few times and no physical damage just when my friend tried to look for voltages there was voltage only near power connector and few centimeters away from that power connector and it said that connector had 19v and few centimeters there were only 2-4v
