Hi @ArchitaG

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear you're facing this issue! It sounds like your HP laptop is experiencing a power or hardware-related problem. Don't worry; let's go through a few troubleshooting steps to see if we can resolve this and help you avoid data loss.

1. Perform a Hard Reset

Sometimes, a simple hard reset can fix power issues:

  1. Turn off the laptop (if it's on).
  2. Unplug the power adapter and remove the battery (if possible).
  3. Hold down the power button for about 15–30 seconds. This will drain any residual power.
  4. Reinsert the battery and plug the power adapter back in.
  5. Try turning the laptop on again.

2. Check for Power Issues

  • Try a different power adapter or outlet: There could be an issue with the charger or power outlet, so try using another one to see if the problem persists.
  • Check the power LED: You mentioned the LED turns on and off after 3 seconds. If it doesn't stay on or blink in a pattern, it could indicate a hardware failure.

3. Remove External Devices

Disconnect any peripherals like USB drives, printers, or external displays from the laptop. Sometimes, a malfunctioning external device can prevent the laptop from starting properly.

4. Test the Laptop with an External Monitor

If your laptop's screen isn't displaying anything (black screen), try connecting the laptop to an external monitor via HDMI or VGA. This will help check if it's a screen issue or a broader internal problem.

5. Reset the RAM (Memory)

It's possible the RAM (memory) is not properly seated, and reseating it might help:

  1. Turn off the laptop and unplug it.
  2. If you feel comfortable, remove the bottom panel (or back cover) of your laptop.
  3. Locate the RAM and carefully remove the sticks.
  4. Re-insert them back into the slots firmly, ensuring they're seated properly.
  5. Reconnect the power and try turning it on again.

6. Listen for Beep Codes

When you try to turn on the laptop, listen carefully for any beeping sounds. Some laptops will emit a series of beeps if there is a hardware error, which can help identify the specific issue. If you hear beeps, count the pattern (e.g., 3 short beeps, 2 long beeps) and check the HP support site for beep code meanings.

7. Try Booting in Safe Mode or Recovery

If the laptop turns on but doesn't boot normally, you might be able to boot into Windows Recovery Mode:

  1. Power on the laptop and immediately press the F8 or Esc key repeatedly (you can try other function keys like F11).
  2. Select "Troubleshoot", then "Advanced Options", and try to boot into Safe Mode.

8. BIOS Reset (If Possible)

If your laptop turns on but still doesn’t boot into Windows, you might want to try resetting the BIOS:

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Press and hold the Esc key while turning on the laptop. This should bring up the BIOS menu or options.
  3. If you can access the BIOS, look for an option to reset BIOS settings to default or restore factory settings.
  4. Save and exit BIOS and try to boot again.

I hope this helps.
