@grwaitemd, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're unable to log in to your 2019 HP laptop due to outdated Microsoft account recovery information (like an old phone number). Here's how you can regain access:

Option 1: Reset Microsoft Account Password

If the laptop is using a Microsoft account to sign in:

  • Go to the Microsoft password reset page: Recover your account
  • Choose “I forgot my password” and enter your Microsoft account email.
  • If you no longer have access to the recovery phone/email, click “I don’t have any of these” during verification.
  • Follow the prompts to fill out the account recovery form. Provide as much accurate info as possible (e.g., past passwords, services used, billing info if applicable).

Microsoft Support Guide: Help with the Microsoft account recovery form - Microsoft Support

Option 2: Use Local Account (if available)

If you previously set up a local account (not tied to Microsoft), try:

  1. On the login screen, click “Sign-in options”.
  2. Select the local account and enter your password.

If you forgot the local password, you may need to reset it using recovery tools.

Option 3: Reset Windows (if recovery fails)

If you're unable to recover the account, you can reset Windows to regain access:

This will remove all personal files unless you choose the "Keep my files" option.

  1. Power off the laptop.
  2. Turn it on and immediately press F11 repeatedly to enter HP Recovery Manager or Windows Recovery.
  3. Choose Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.
  4. Select either:
    • Keep my files (removes apps/settings but keeps personal files)
    • Remove everything (full reset)

Additional Tips

If the recovery form fails, try contacting Microsoft Support directly:

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
