Hi @Doochy ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the mute button on your HP Envy x360 15.6 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC isn't lighting up, there are a few potential reasons and solutions:

1. Check the HP Hotkey Support Driver

  • The mute button's LED light may rely on specific HP drivers. Check if the HP Hotkey Support or System Event Utility driver is installed and up to date.
  • Go to the HP support website and download the latest version of these drivers for your specific model.

2. Update Audio and System Drivers

  • Sometimes the issue can be linked to outdated audio drivers or system firmware.
  • Open Device Manager:
    • Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
    • Expand the Sound, video and game controllers section.
    • Right-click your audio device (e.g., Realtek Audio), and select Update driver.
  • Also, check BIOS and chipset drivers on the HP website for updates.

3. Check HP Support Assistant

  • Open HP Support Assistant and check for any driver or system updates. This tool automatically checks for missing or outdated drivers, including ones related to hotkeys.

4. Windows Audio Settings

  • Open Settings > System > Sound and ensure the audio device is set up correctly. Sometimes, resetting the audio settings helps restore functionality to the mute button.

5. Perform a BIOS Reset

  • If the issue persists, try resetting the BIOS to default settings:
    • Restart your laptop and press F10 during boot to enter the BIOS.
    • Use the arrow keys to navigate to the Exit tab and select Load Setup Defaults.
    • Save the changes and exit.

6. HP Command Center

  • Some HP laptops have software called HP Command Center, which manages hardware features like the LED lights on hotkeys. Make sure this software is installed and updated.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
