@arianarosebed, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Restore Password Login Option!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Open Settings:
- Press Win + I to open the Settings app.
Navigate to Accounts:
- Select "Accounts" from the Settings menu.
Go to Sign-in Options:
- In the Accounts section, select "Sign-in options" from the left sidebar.
Manage Sign-In Methods:
- Under the "Sign-in options," you will see various login methods such as "Windows Hello PIN," "Password," "Picture Password," etc.
Enable Password Login:
- Look for the "Password" section and ensure it's enabled. If you see an option to add or manage your password, choose that and set or reset your password if necessary.
Disable Windows Hello PIN:
- If you prefer to use your password instead of a PIN, you can remove your PIN. Go to the "Windows Hello PIN" section and select "Remove."
Restart Your Laptop:
- After making these changes, restart your laptop and check if the password option is available on the login screen.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!

@arianarosebed, Thanks for the follow-up, and I totally get how frustrating this can be — especially when you're used to a specific password and suddenly everything looks different.
It sounds like your laptop has switched over to using your Microsoft account for sign-in (likely after a recent update), which replaces your old local HP account password with your Microsoft one.
Here’s what you can do if you’d like to go back to using a simple local password:
Open Settings (Win + I)
Go to Accounts > Your Info
Click on “Sign in with a local account instead”
Follow the steps to set your old (or new) local password
This will let you log in the old-school way again — without the long Microsoft password or PIN.
Hope this helps!
