Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop 15-fb2000 (90Q63AV)

hi.

about 2 months ago i got myself a new victus gaming laptop. it worked out fine until last week.

now it often blacks out shortly after booting, although its always connected to the power outlet.

then when it blacked out, it can not be started for like 10 minutes.

after that time it starts booting, but often crashes again while booting after a few seconds.

i really cant figure out whats the matter.

i already made a few big tests with the hp diagnostics software, but i doesnt find an error.

do you have any ideas what may could cause this problem?

thanks

Hi @hochdruck,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your Victus Gaming Laptop may have a hardware issue causing these crashes and blackouts. Let's go through some potential causes and solutions.

Check the Power Supply

  • Verify Adapter and Cable: Ensure the power adapter and cable are functioning correctly. Try using another compatible charger to rule out a faulty power supply.
  • Battery Health: Run a battery diagnostic in the BIOS or HP Diagnostics software to ensure the battery isn’t causing the issue, even if the laptop is plugged in.

Overheating Issue

  • Clean the Air Vents: Dust buildup can cause overheating. Use compressed air to clean the vents and fans.
  • Thermal Monitoring: Check the CPU and GPU temperatures using software like HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner. If they spike, the system may be shutting down to prevent damage.
  • Adjust Cooling Settings: Set the laptop’s performance mode to “Cool” in HP Command Center.

RAM or Storage Problems

  • Memory Test: Run an extensive memory test using HP Diagnostics or software like MemTest86.
  • Storage Test: Perform a thorough check of the SSD for errors using tools like CrystalDiskInfo or HP Diagnostics.

BIOS and Drivers

  • Update BIOS: Ensure you’re running the latest BIOS firmware. Outdated firmware can cause stability issues.
  • Driver Updates: Use the HP Support Assistant to check for updates for the GPU, chipset, and other critical drivers.

Windows Corruption

  • Perform a Clean Boot: Boot into safe mode or perform a clean boot to rule out software conflicts.
  • System File Check: Run sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth in Command Prompt to repair corrupted system files.
  • Reinstall Windows: As a last resort, back up your data and reinstall Windows to eliminate any software-level problems.

Hardware Defect

If the diagnostics return no issues, but the problem persists, it may be a hardware defect, such as:

  • Motherboard Issue: Power regulation problems on the motherboard.
  • GPU/CPU Fault: A faulty GPU or CPU could cause the system to crash under load or during initialization.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
