i have turned on my laptop and a warning comes up about my fan not operating, therefore, pc is at risk of overheating and losing data or shutting down etc. I have attempted to follow the necessary steps, for example, cooling it down by making sure the vents are not blocked, a hard reset etc. It still isn't work and the sign is showing up. what do I do?

@Saarahs-laptop, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Laptop 15s-fq2000 shows a warning that the cooling fan is not operating, and you’ve already tried basic steps (like unblocking vents, hard reset, etc.), the issue likely lies with hardware failure of the fan or a fan connection issue. Here’s what to do next:

Verify the Fan Warning Message

  • If your laptop displays a message like:

"The system has detected that a cooling fan is not operating correctly. Continued operation is not recommended..."

This is a BIOS-level warning, indicating that the fan is either:

  • Physically not spinning, or
  • Not being detected by the motherboard (disconnected or failed).

Check Fan Activity Manually

  • Power off your laptop completely.
  • Place your ear near the vent area.
  • Turn it on and listen for the fan spin-up sound right after pressing the power button.
  • If you don’t hear any fan noise at all, the fan is likely dead or not connected.

Perform BIOS Diagnostics

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Press the power button, then immediately and repeatedly press F2 (or Esc > F2) to open the HP Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  • Run the “System Tests” > “Component Tests” > “Fan” test.
  • If the fan fails the test, it confirms a hardware failure.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
