OMEN by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-xf0000 (7L9B40AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

My computer suddenly blacked out while I was using it and didn't respond regardless of which case I pressed, the computer seemed to go into hibernation mode, I could hear the fan spinning but the keyboard indicators such as the power indicator and the caps lock indicator wouldn't light up, this problem has now been solved by myself, I placed a magnet near the power button and the computer went straight back to normal, I have read the relevant forums and many people have experienced this with their omen9, it seems to be a sensor problem that makes the system think that my computer is in hibernation, in the last few days this faulty condition has become more frequent and I am hoping for a repair.

Hi @Usin,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're experiencing with your OMEN by HP 16.1 Inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-Xf0000 (7L9B40AV) sounds like it could be related to a magnetic sensor in the laptop that's intended to detect when the lid is closed, putting the laptop into hibernation mode. This sensor can sometimes be triggered erroneously by external factors or fail, causing the laptop to enter hibernation mode unexpectedly. The fact that placing a magnet near the power button resolved the issue temporarily suggests that the laptop's sensor was indeed falsely triggered.

Given the recurring nature of this problem and its apparent frequency among users of similar models (as you've found in forums), it's advisable to seek a permanent solution. Here are a few steps you can take:

Check for Firmware/BIOS Updates: Sometimes, HP releases updates that can resolve hardware-related issues. Checking for and installing any available BIOS or firmware updates for your laptop might help mitigate the problem. Click Here

Avoid Magnetic Interference: If the issue is indeed triggered by magnetic sensors, keeping the laptop away from magnetic sources when in use might prevent unintentional hibernation.

Backup Important Data: Given that the laptop is experiencing sudden shutdowns, ensure you regularly back up important data to avoid loss.

it seems that the issue needs a hardware repair.
