Hi @Truckmancarr,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I can understand how frustrating it must be to be stuck at "Preparing Automatic Repair," especially when Safe Mode won’t work. Let’s see if we can get your laptop up and running again.

  • Did the issue start after a specific update, software installation, or sudden shutdown?
  • Have you noticed any unusual behavior before this started, like slow performance or unexpected crashes?
  • Do you have important data on the laptop that you need to recover, or is it backed up elsewhere?

Let's try these steps.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the laptop completely by holding down the power button for about 10 seconds.
  • Disconnect all external devices (e.g., USB drives, printers) and unplug the charger.
  • Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  • Plug the charger back in and try restarting the laptop.

Boot into Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE)

  • Turn the laptop off, then power it on and immediately press Esc repeatedly to access the Startup Menu.
  • From there, select F11 for System Recovery.
  • In the recovery options, choose Advanced Options > Troubleshoot > Startup Repair.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions and see if Windows can repair itself.

Run a Command Prompt Repair

Try Disabling Automatic Repair

  • In Command Prompt, type the following command:

  • Restart your laptop and see if it bypasses the "Preparing Automatic Repair" loop.

Reset the PC or Reinstall Windows

  • If none of the above works, consider resetting Windows while keeping your files:
    • In WinRE, go to Troubleshoot > Reset this PC > Keep my files.
    • If this option isn’t available or fails, you may need to reinstall Windows using a bootable USB drive.
    • Create a Windows 11 installation USB (using another computer) from the Microsoft website.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
