@vckhry, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're experiencing an issue where Valorant is stuck at 60 FPS, and you're unable to change the FPS cap in the NVIDIA Control Panel due to an "Access Denied" error. Let's walk through a few steps to resolve this:
Check Display Refresh Rate
Ensure your display is set to a refresh rate higher than 60Hz (if supported):
- Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
- Scroll down and click Advanced display settings.
- Under Refresh rate, select the highest available option (e.g., 120Hz or 144Hz).
Disable V-Sync in NVIDIA Control Panel
If V-Sync is enabled, it can cap FPS to your monitor’s refresh rate:
- Right-click on the desktop and open NVIDIA Control Panel.
- Go to Manage 3D settings > Program Settings tab.
- Select Valorant from the list or add it manually.
- Set Vertical sync to Off.
- Click Apply.
If you see “Access Denied” when trying to change settings:
- Make sure you're logged in as an Administrator.
- Try running NVIDIA Control Panel as Administrator:
- Press Windows key, type NVIDIA Control Panel, right-click it, and select Run as administrator.
Check for HP Software Locking Settings
Some HP notebooks come with pre-installed software that may restrict GPU settings. Try the following:
- Open HP Command Center or OMEN Gaming Hub (if available).
- Look for Performance Mode or Thermal Profile and set it to Performance.
- Restart your system.
Update Graphics Drivers
Outdated drivers can cause performance issues:
- Visit the HP Support page.
- Enter your notebook model and download the latest graphics drivers.
- Alternatively, use GeForce Experience to update your NVIDIA drivers.
In-Game Settings
In Valorant:
- Go to Settings > Video > Graphics Quality.
- Set Max FPS Always and Max FPS In-Game to a higher value (e.g., 144 or 240).
- Disable V-Sync in-game as well.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
