laptop Pavilion DV4
Microsoft Windows Vista

when I turned on the laptop I saw the screen  in two  part colors , gray and blue with a 1 1/2 inch width line between the two colors and I saw some thing like thread in the descibed line. the laptop did not work. I turned it off, unpluged the AC,and removed the battery, then I pressed the turn on for one minute but I got the same described screen. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated

Can you upload a picture? What you described sounds just like what happened to my dad's laptop. The problem wasn't the screen, it was the lvds cable that connects the screen to the motherboard. If this is the problem, you will need to order a new lvds cable: https://www.amazon.com/Eathtek-Flex-Cable-DC02000IO00-486878-001/dp/B005NE7268.

As far as replacing the cable goes, here is a link to HP's service guide for this laptop. It probably has info on that somewhere. Like I said before, if you could upload a picture so that I can make sure this is the problem, that would be very helpful.

Sorry, your screen is busted. If you want to fix it, order this: https://www.amazon.com/HP-Pavilion-dv4-1225dx-Laptop-1280x800/dp/B005MEON2U and follow this guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdgGNDDbmHs. You might be able to find a replacement screen for cheaper, and if the guide I posted doesn't help, I am sure that there are many other guides out there.
