I have an HP ENVY laptop where I get the above error. I've checked into Device Manager, but there is no Camera option, thus the error message. I've tried downloading a new driver, but for some reason, it does not install. There is one of those yellow and blue shields on the download, so perhaps that is the issue. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

@FoundationsFred Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that you are getting 0xA00F4244 error NoCamerasAreAttached message.

Do not worry. I will try to fix the issue.

Please provide the correct product number.

In the meantime perform the below steps and check.

 Look for the Kill Switch

Newer HP laptops have a Kill Switch feature designed to physically disconnect your webcam.  This is helpful for preventing bad people from activating your webcam remotely but can be overlooked when trying to use the webcam for video conferencing.  If your model has a kill switch, make sure it’s switched on.

Try a hard reset

When Windows doesn’t see devices like cameras, sometimes it just needs to be forced to look again.  Try a power reset.

Once detected, you should see the camera in the Device Manager.  Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.  Expand the Cameras section to see your camera.

TIP:  You can disable the web cam here in the Device Manager by right-clicking on the camera and select Disable Device.  Don’t forget to enable it later if needed.

    Install the driver

Sometimes Windows needs the latest camera driver for the camera to function well.  While in the Device Manager, right-click on your camera and select Update Driver.  Then click Search Automatically for updated driver software.  The latest driver is always available via Windows Update.

Thank you for your help. Unfortunately, none of the options fixed the problem.  Still not registering the camera on the device manager.

I understand your concerns.

You may attempt a Microsoft System Restore to roll back the laptop to an earlier date when everything was working fine. This will not delete your data.

Also, I suggest you to review the steps in this HP document as it helped in fixing webcam related issues.

Finally, please contact our HP phone support team in case the webcam still does not get detected in the device manager. The HP phone support team will check and let you know the available service options for your laptop.

Have a great day!

Thank you.  I've tried these steps, and still nothing. I was unable to get to a restore point, as this has been an issue for a year or two and a restore point didn't go back that far.

With regards to HP Support, I purchased HP SmartFriend service, called the number, but either got disconnected or transferred. I had to go thru HP website to get a Case Number before being given any help, but I was unable to go through the support channels to get a case number for help that I paid for.  Some of this is due to staffing and CoronaVirus, I believe. If somehow you can help me get a case number, perhaps I can get to the next step...  Thank you.

@FoundationsFred

I understand your concerns.

If you have contacted support and case Id is generated, you will get the email response with a case number. Please check your email inbox or junk email.

If you did not get the email, I would suggest you contact our phone support one more time and get the case ID.

Have a nice day!!
