envy dv7
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

my hp envy dv7 laptop has 4 USB ports, two on the left and two on the right. I was messing around one day and I later found out that just one port on the right side was recognizing any USB device. plugging the USB device into all other three ports, they were not even picked up at all, no sound made.

I've tried uninstalling the USB root hubs. that did not work. I've tried using the "update drivers" option in the device manager and I was told that my drivers were the latest. I don't know what else to do.

I've downloaded the diagnostics. When I tested the USB ports, it reported them as OK. What else can I do?

When windows is booted up completely, the USB ports still don't recognize devices, even though the diagnostics reported the USB ports as ok

Have you tried reinstalling the driver using Recovery Manager? this document is for Win 10 but basically the same in Win 8.
