For the past 3 months I am struggling with this problem. My Touchpad would be working fine but suddenly the pointer will disappear. Then again it would come and the problem would repeat. I did a hard reset to solve the problem and it worked fine till I updated by windows. I checked for solution online and figured out that in the device manager for 12C HID DEVICE, the yellow triangle is there and in properties it shows "The Device cannot start (Code 10)". I have tried everything to update the driver but it doesn't work and it has become really annoying. If anybody knows how to solve the problem, it will be of great help? Please don't advice another hard reset...

Hi @ViSh75,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
I understand that you are facing issues with the 12C HID Driver Code 10.
The error code 10 for the 12C HID driver usually indicates that the device cannot start. If your HP Pavilion X360 14 Convertible PC's touchpad is not working but sometimes works intermittently, here are steps you can follow to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
1. Update or Reinstall the Touchpad Driver
Open Device Manager:
- Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
Locate the HID Driver:
- Expand the Human Interface Devices section.
- Find the 12C HID Device with the error code 10.
Update Driver:
- Right-click on the device and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
Reinstall Driver:
- If updating doesn’t work, right-click on the device and select Uninstall device.
- Confirm the uninstallation and then restart your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
Check for Windows Updates
Open Windows Update:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
Check for Updates:
- Click on Check for updates and install any available updates.
- Restart your laptop after installing updates.
Update the BIOS

- Follow the instructions on the website to download and install the update.
Adjust Power Management Settings
Open Device Manager:
- Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
Locate the HID Driver:
- Expand the Human Interface Devices section.
- Find the 12C HID Device.
Adjust Power Management:
- Right-click on the device and select Properties.
- Go to the Power Management tab.
- Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
Perform a Hard Reset
Shut Down the Laptop:
- Turn off your laptop completely.
Disconnect All External Devices:
- Remove any external devices connected to the laptop.
Press and Hold the Power Button:
- Hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds to discharge any residual power.
Reconnect and Power On:
- Turn on the laptop and check if the touchpad works.
6. Check Touchpad Settings
Open Settings:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
Adjust Touchpad Settings:
- Ensure the touchpad is enabled and adjust any other settings as necessary.
7. Run HP Diagnostics
Access HP Diagnostics:
- Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly during startup.
- Press F2 to enter HP Diagnostics.
Run the Touchpad Test:
- Run a touchpad test to check for hardware issues.
Restore System
Open System Restore:
- Press Win + R, type rstrui, and press Enter.
Choose a Restore Point:
- Follow the on-screen instructions to restore your system to a point where the touchpad is working correctly.
If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it may be a hardware problem. Contact HP Phone Support for further assistance and possible repair or replacement options.
