I just wanted to ask if I would be able to upgrade my 14-fq0008ca ram from 4GB to 16GB. I was looking at the Kingston and G.Skill 16GB module

Hi:

According to the Crucial memory report for your PC, the max memory is 2 x 8 GB.

Chapter 1 of your notebook's service manual also indicates the same...2 x 8 GB.

Thanks,

I opened the laptop, and there is only one memory slot. I think that I'm going to just put in an 8GB stick for now

You're very welcome.

So much for the manual and the Crucial memory report!

You can see if your PC will support a single 16 GB chip by running this command...

Windows users can determine the maximum RAM capacity in the Command prompt with the command below. It gives the final value in kilobytes which can be converted to gigabytes (divide the value by 1048576 to convert KB to GB).

Run the Command prompt app as administrator.  Then run the following command.  You can copy and paste the line from here.

If it says 16 GB you may be able to install a single 16 GB memory chip.

No 100% guarantee it will work, but if it only reports 8 GB, then you definitely would be limited to a single 8 GB chip.

If the command reports you can run a single 16 GB memory chip, this one would probably be compatible with your notebook.

I ended up putting in a 16GB stick.  Worked no problem.  I think that the other ram slot may be on the other side of the motherboard.  Not worried, 16GB is fine for the near future.

That's great news.
