HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab157nr
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Notebook does not turn and the charge LED do not illuminate. One day it just died while running. Not sure if it was connected to AC at the time.

When plugging to an adapter measured to be putting out 19.62V, there is no voltage on any of the battery connection pins. I’m not sure if this is normal when no battery is installed.

Could this possibly be the charging connector harness? If not what else?

Hi @Phreaktor

No that is not normal. There should still be voltage.

In reference to " charging connector harness" I have never heard of that.

Do you mean  to say the power adapter that connects between the household power outlet and that has a cable with connector that plugs into the laptop instead?

A faulty power adapter could cause the battery to not charge.

You have not stated it, but does the notebook power on when the power button is pressed and boot to Windows?

The notebook should still boot up even if the battery is no longer working, but that would be no current to provide to the BIOS chip.

If the issue is not the power adapter, it could be the header on the notebook that the power adapter connector plugs into, one or more mosfets, capacitors or an open zero ohm resistor  on the system board.

Unless you are an electronics enthusiast, an electronics technician or an Engineer, you should probably consider taking the notebok to a shop to have it repaired.

Yes I’m talking about the header cable inside of the laptop that connects to the charger. It does not power on at all. DOA with no lights or anything. The AC adapter is delivering the correct voltage at the plug. I’m going to buy the header cable as it’s only a $6 shipped part on eBay and go from there. When I open it I’ll have a look at the board components as well. I can do standard or air soldering if needed. Thanks.
