Pavilion x360 15-cr0052od
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
I recently purchased a Pavilion 15 at Office Depot. I was under the impression that it had a 1TB hdd, and didn't realize until starting to load it up (and running out of space) that it's actually a 256GB M.2 module. I have a spare 512 GB SSD, and was wondering if the motherboard had an interface that would support it? The model appears to be specific to the retailer, and I haven't been able to find any related support references online. Any knowledgeable advice appreciated.

Hello @sarge77,

If you mean that your spare 512 GB SSD is a SATA III drive, then yes, you should have the option for a dual storage configuration with the hard drive slot being on the bottom left-hand corner, right below the M.2 module.

You will most likely need these two parts:

Hard drive cable L20815-001

Hard drive rubber sleeve L20832-001

You can then use the HP Spare part number(s) in the HP Parts store hereYou may also be able to find it elsewhere on the Internet. The problem is that these parts are new and are currently unavailable...

Installation procedure can be found here.

Hope this helps,

Eddy

Here are the HP specs:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06030471

Service Manual:

Manual

Start on p. 27 for disassembly. You see this inside:

red = m.2 slot green = RAM blue = HDDred = m.2 slot green = RAM blue = HDD

Of course yours will just have an empty space where the hard drive is shown above.

See pp. 33-35 for hard drive installation. You will not have these parts but would need to buy them to install a 2.5 inch hard drive or SSD:

Hard drive rubber sleeve L20832-001 Hard drive foil L25138-001 Hard drive cable L20815-001

HP does not have it:

https://parts.hp.com/hpparts/Search_Results.aspx?mscssid=B4DA3F93DE664866979A968101EEB620&SearchIn=P...

These parts are very hard to find so if you are running out of storage you could maybe consider an SD card or get a larger capacity M.2 SSD.

Post back with any questions or please accept as solution if its the info you need.

Eddy,

Thank you very moch for the information and quick response! It's unfortunate that the parts are not available... Hopefully they will be at some time, but I guess I'll muddle through until then.

So, quick follow up... I was able to locate a drive cable on ebay that had been pulled from a 15-CR0051OD model, which I assumed would work since that model linked to the same service manual on the HP service web site. It arrived today, and I'm happyu to report that I'm now working with two drives in the laptop! Thanks again for the responses and assistance!

What is the purpose of the hard drive foil? Is it a necessity or will the laptop be fine without it?

Heat and noise insulation. Nice to have; not really needed.
