hello,

I have a 15-db1252ng with 512GB nvme sdd, with power supply unit plugged in, the nvme is fast 1400MB/s

If I unplug it and use just the battery the nvme speeds down to 300-400MB/s thats very annoying, cause everything is so slow compared to when the power supply unit is pluggin in.

I have read from other users with same problem, but no one knows a solution.

so why does HP limit the nvme speed in battery mode ?

can we get a bios update that fixes that ?

Hi @krazykenny ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the issue you're experiencing with your HP Notebook - 15-db1252ng, where the NVMe SSD speed decreases significantly when running on battery, is related to the power management settings in the BIOS and the operating system. This is a common behavior in many laptops to conserve battery life.

Here are some steps you can take to address this issue:

Adjust Power Plan Settings in Windows:

  • Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
  • Select your active power plan and click on Change plan settings.
  • Click on Change advanced power settings.
  • Expand the PCI Express section and then Link State Power Management.
  • Set it to Off for both On battery and Plugged in.

Check BIOS/UEFI Settings:

  • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing Esc, F2, F10, or Del during startup).
  • Look for power management settings related to performance on the battery.
  • Disable any power-saving features that might be affecting the SSD speed.

Update BIOS:

  • Check if there's a BIOS update available for your laptop model that might address this issue.
  • You can check the HP support website for your specific model here.
  • Follow the instructions to download and install the latest BIOS update.

Performance Mode:

  • Some laptops have a performance mode that can be toggled using specific key combinations (e.g., Fn + Q) or through the HP utility software.
  • Ensure your laptop is set to performance mode for maximum speed even when on battery.

I hope this helps.

yeah I already tried every setting in windows, every power/energie option, nothing works.

(all what you descriped)

and the bios does not have any power/energy settings.

so it is impossible to use full nvme speed in battery mode., I have checked again, its only about 300MB/s read in battery mode.
