HP Pavilion Laptop PC 15t-eg000 CTO

Recently, my daughter's laptop stopped charging. The first thing I did was check the output of the AC adapter, and it showed 0 volts. Fortunately, my own laptop uses the same adapter type, and I also had a spare. Both adapters work perfectly with my laptop and charge it without issue. However, neither of them worked with hers. Note: The broken laptop AC/DC adapter led on the computer does not illuminate at all.

I then removed the battery from her laptop and charged it externally. After reinserting it, the laptop powered on using the battery, but unfortunately, the charge only lasts about 15 - 20 minutes. I ran diagnostics, which confirmed the battery is weak, but reported no other issues.

Next, I measured the voltage from the AC adapter all the way to the point just before it connects to the motherboard—it checked out fine. Still, the laptop does not recognize the charger. I also updated the BIOS to the latest available version for that model (F.49 Rev A) and reinstalled the battery-related drivers (two of them), but the problem persists.

At this point, I’m leaning toward a failure in the motherboard’s power circuitry, but I wanted to check  to see if anyone has other other insights or suggestions or has had the same experience. I have read online where some have reported that the BIOS ( F.44 and above) is causing the issue. Unfortunately I can't find any old versions.

Hi @cck07,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It appears that you are experiencing an issue with the HP Pavilion Laptop PC 15t-eg000 CTO related to power and charging. Given the steps you have already taken, it seems that the problem might be within the laptop itself rather than the AC adapter. Here are a few suggestions to troubleshoot further:

1. Check the Power Connector

Ensure that the power connector on the laptop is not damaged. Look for any bent pins, dust, or debris that might be obstructing it.

2. Perform a Hard Reset

Sometimes, performing a hard reset can resolve power issues:

  1. Disconnect all external devices connected to the laptop.
  2. Unplug the AC adapter.
  3. Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the battery (if removable) and plug in the AC adapter.
  5. Press the power button to turn on the laptop and check if the issue persists.

3. Inspect the Battery

If the laptop has a removable battery, ensure it’s properly seated and connected. If you have access to another battery, you can try replacing it temporarily to see if this resolves the issue.

4. Update BIOS

Sometimes, updating the BIOS can resolve hardware-related issues:

  1. Download the latest BIOS update from the HP Support website.
  2. Follow the instructions to update the BIOS.

I hope this helps.
