So I've upgraded the ram in this laptop to 32GB, but it seems the 5700U Radeon graphics is struggling once I get my full workload going, none of which are very graphics oriented. I usually have 4 browsers running, one with multiple tabs, couple of browser based games, discord, IRC. Memory loaded is 14GB or so but I've noticed the mouse freezing and stuttering once everything is loaded for a while. Touchpad doesn't seem to have this issue, as I can switch to the touchpad when mouse is freezing. I happened to run HWMonitor and saw that the Radeon usage was pegged in usage and the 512Mb dedicated memory.

My question is am I running out of gpu memory or is it something else? Mouse is a M$ Mobile Mouse 4000. I downloaded HP's graphics driver, ran it, but after restart I was still on a later driver, So I went to AMD's driver site installed the latest driver, and looked all through Radeon software settings looking for a setting to up the VRAM for the GPU.

Thanks for any guidance on this!

The specs of your machine is

           https://support.hp.com/hk-en/document/c07905305

It has

  • AMD Radeon™ Graphics
  • Integrated

also called iGPU.

Integrated video (iGPU) does not have room for keep VRAM, it relies on System. System will work this out and allocate/assign spare/available system RAM to VRAM automatically when required up to max limit. System will also take VRAM back when required (the number is dynamic, not fix). During the good old days, we could do this from BIOS but now OS is smarter.

The following document shows Max shared RAM for Intel iGPU versions (I can't find a similar list from AMD).

Well thats some info I needed to know. Vram is variable, good to know. The mouse problem I tried the usb receiver on the closer side of the laptop and so far so good. If it rears it's ugly head again I may try a better mouse driver or switch mice.

I've narrowed down the problem further. I'm pretty sure moving the USB receiver to the other side solved the jittering mouse issue. But further issues related to the IGP reared it's ugly head. I had issues with browsers showing text fairly blocky which I traced down to enabling acceleration if available in browser settings. I turned acceleration off in browser settings, then cpu usage went through the roof causing system lag. But after disabling accereration, fonts looked fine.

I do run 4 browsers simultaniously, all Chrome based. I have 32 GB ram, I do not have OEM software. I wiped it and installed my own Windows 10. As noted earlier, I ran HP's graphics driver but it didn't finish installing, so I installed the latest official AMD driver for the 5700U. I may try HP's driver here shortly to see if it helps

Maybe someone has seen this issue and can share a solution.
