I used the built-in HP battery checker & it reports 'OK' - I'm wondering if it could be the battery contacts or the 'switch' inside power adapter jack. Looking forward to some possible solutions - I sure want to avoid ordering a new battery, if it won't work, either. TY.

NOTE: Wow! Apologies. I didn't remember posting here about a similar issue back in 2019. It's not like me, to not report back results of doing what member(s) suggest trying. Perhaps I was expecting email notification, but never got one. ...will go through the steps, 2 members recommended & report back.

I went with buying a new battery, it being more practical for me than having my laptop's battery contacts or some other laptop hardware failure checked. I found one reasonably priced at Amazon.com, with a 2-year warranty from a manufacturer who received high customer service ratings. It solves my need for portable use. Only con is it doesn't fit as well as the OEM battery - it's a tad diffcult to remove. I'll now be looking for a Linux app that works like & as well as an app I recently installed on my Android phone, called AccuBattery, that can increase the longevity of rechargeable batteries. Happy Earth rotations to all!!!

Thanks, Erico! I'd sure like an HP employee to explain how a battery can show 100% charged AND show OK in their own battery test app. I'll repost as soon as I'm fairly sure a new battery will be the solution. Because of the battery status, I'm still concerned problem may be laptop's battery contacts or some other laptop hardware failure.

The purpose of this forum is customer to customer help. Some of us have a plenty of experience and others not so much. There are very few HP employees here in the forum
