I have a 17z-cp200 laptop with a 128 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD, can I use a Samsung 980 Pro PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 500gb HD?
Currently it does not seem to be recognized by the laptop in BIOS or at boot etc.

Hi, Jeff:
I don't see any reason why the Samsung 980 Pro drive would not work in your notebook.
It won't run at the full PCIe gen 4 speed because according to the AMD processor specs for the best processor offered in the model series, the connectivity is PCIe Gen 3, and chapter 3 of the service manual indicates that only PCIe Gen 3 NVMe SSD's were offered in the model series, if you google the part numbers.

I can confirm that I read about it being backwards compatible from 4.0 to 3.0. I still have been unable to get it to recognize the HD. IN an F2 system test it doesn't seem to recognize it, and oddly it wont recognize my USB boot install disk that I have used on this before when I installed a company copy of Win10 Enterprise. It also wont work with the USB install disk inserted at boot, or without it inserted.
When I swapped the original 128GB HD back in, it all works fine and will also boot to the install USB. I tried turning secure boot on and off also and still I get the '3F0' error with the 980 pro -- every time.
If any of that is any help I would appreciate it. Of course with PCIe memory getting so cheap, this was cheaper than configuring the laptop with more storage when I bought it. I just received the laptop last week around April 19th. All items are new. Thanks!

You're very welcome.
Unfortunately, I have no idea why it isn't working.
You tried everything I would have done.
The only suggestion I can offer would be to return the drive and switch to a Western Digital Blue SN570 500 GB model.
