HP Pavilion G6 - 1000 Series
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi. I have been meaning to upgrade my i5 CPU, harddrive, and 4GB RAM to an i7 CPU, SSD, and 8GB of RAM on my Pavilion G6 1050ex.

While the CPU and SSD worked just fine, I couldn't get the new RAM sticks to work (HyperX DDR3L 8GB (2x4) 1600Mhz). The laptop powers on but it never shows anything up on the screen it's just black. At first I thought that the new RAM sticks were incompatible with my laptop, but I tried using a single stick and it turned on just fine. I think I damaged the 2nd slot by inserting the new memory stick into it after years of not using it and damaged it with some residual dust. I sprayed lots of electrical cleaner into the slot, but to no avail.

My question is, is there a way to remedy the second slot somehow? Or should I just upgrade to a single 8GB stick?

@Damage42 Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that the 2nd Memory Slot Isn't working.

I have checked the manual

This model will support up to 8GB.

You have to install  2 memory. The single 8 GB will not work.

Supports up to 8 GB of system memory in the following configurations:

● 6144 MB (4096 MB × 1 + 2048×1)

● 4096 MB (4096 MB × 1)

● 4096 MB (2048 MB × 2)

● 3072 MB (1024 MB × 1 + 2048 MB × 1)

● 2048 MB (2048 MB × 1)

● 2048 MB (1024 MB × 2)
