Envy M6 1201tx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

Recently I have tried to replace the optical drive with an SSD hard drive. I brought an HP SSD hard drive(240GB) and a universal 9.5 mm caddy. I have installed SSD and caddy successfully. But now my computer does not turn on. Even the boot menu does not show up if I press "Esc" key. I checked the SSD. It is working fine. I felt there is some issue with the caddy(maybe caddy's data transfer speed is different than DVD drive). Can anyone suggest me how to know the actual bus speed of DVD drive(model: HP envy M6 1201tx). I am trying to install the following SSD and caddy.

SSD: https://www.walmart.com/ip/HP-M700-2-5-240GB-SATA-III-Planar-MLC-NAND-Flash-Internal-Solid-State-Dri...

Caddy: https://www.ebay.com/p/9-5mm-Universal-SATA-2nd-HDD-SSD-Hard-Drive-Caddy-for-Cd-dvd-rom-Optical-Bay-...

Please let me clear understand the situation: do wou wish to boot from SSD in the caddy ? I posted many times, this won't work. Option

(a) Remove HDD and put SSD on HDD bay,

(b) Run on SSD for few days or a week,

(c) When happy, format HDD and put it on caddy bay for storage.

Regards.

@Banhien Thank you so much for your reply.

I have just an additional query.

Is it mandatory to formate HHD before putting it on caddy for storage?

Thank you so much for your reply.

I have installed new SSD and use as my primary hard drive. I have install OS on my SSD drive. It is working fine. If I put my HDD using a caddy when my laptop is turned on then the HDD works. I can read/write to/from the HDD. But if I restart the laptop then it does not turn on.  Every time I have to remove my HDD to turn on my laptop and then put HDD to use the old HDD.  Is there any way to get rid of this?
