My hp laptop 15-dy5033dx came with a 256 Gb 4.0x4 nvme ssd. If I replace it with 1tb 3.0x4 ssd, will it adversely affect boot time and general performance?

Hi, @Solar4

I'm looking at the parts list for your notebook and when you google the part number of the SSD that HP installed, it shows up as a PCIe Gen 3.0 SSD.

HP PartSurfer

HP L63571-001 256GB M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive - Drive Solutions

In addition to that, your notebook's M.2 slot may only be PCIe Gen 3.0 according to the Intel processor specs for the processor your notebook comes with:

Intel Core i31215U Processor 10M Cache up to 4.40 GHz Product Specifications

You may want to install and run the free Crystaldiskmark 8 utility and the top line will report the maximum read/write speeds the currently installed SSD is providing.

Hi,

It will be somewhat slower, we are talking seconds. So you might not really notice the difference that much.

Why not insert a gen 4 SSD?

Hope it helps,

David

The machine came with 256 gigabytes gen 4.0 x 4 nvme disk even though the m.2 slot is gen 3.0 nvme. As result, the disk's performance was below it's full capacity. The transfer speed even increased when I installed 1 terabyte 3.0 x 4 nvme disk.

My laptop came with 256 gigabytes 4.O x 4 disk but the m.2 slot is pcie gen 3.0 so the disk was not working at full capacity. I replaced it with a gen 3.0 nvme disk and the performance even increased
