Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, would a 45w smart ac adapter (those round type) be damaged if it is used to charge a 120w laptop? Also, is there any overload protection for that ac adapter? I borrowed my friend who owns a 120w laptop and the ac adapter kept cutting off. So just wondering is that the overload protection system working? Any experts could you help answer this? Thanks.
